Polymer Clay Tutorials
Articles from polymer clay can be made at home too, stipulated with the fact that the right direction and guidance is needed, so as to make it look attractive. The very first step while making articles from clay is, to make the clay soft, by conditioning it properly, may be with a clay softener or by your own hands. One scientific principle behind this is that all the air seems to disappear from the clay, because of our constant body heat, one should keep on kneading till the clay softens out.
However where it comes to children, a different kind of polymer clay is available which is much easier to use as compared to the usual ones used by adults. This is because of the polymer clay hazards, which could affect children below the age of 16. As children are more susceptible to danger, great care should be taken, to make sure that the polymer clay used by children is of the finest quality. Well amongst children Fimo Classic and Creall therm are more popular.
Another important aspect which should be born in mind when you soften the clay is, one does not require kneading all the clay at one time, trying kneading the clay in separate parts. This will not require much effort too. Similarly it will help you mould the clay in a much better way
Sometimes there might be a situation where you are unable to search or look out for the color of your choice, then in such times you can use the mixture of other colors. Like by mixing red and yellow we get orange. Similarly by mixing green and red we get brown, purple could be obtained by the combination of red and blue.
Some creativity could also be experimented with your polymer clay, like you could twist two different colors with each other. Similarly mixing different colors could give you a marble finish, making your work look more attractive. Mixing a dark color with a brighter one would give a very good opening. You could mould your clay in different forms and sizes, depending on your choice and also according to your need.
Another great way to make your work look attractive is to give it a folding effect, this effect is mainly given when dressing or clothing. The thinner the better, thin creases always tend to give a better impression as compared to the thicker ones.
